    1. My two favorites:Balineseon the windowsill'sbalance beam, the cat pirouettesas the kibble pingsAbyssiniancurled up on your bookcat won't care what happens nextnow's the only pageOtherwise pretty meh. (Keep in mind that given cats + haiku, my expectation going in was = awesome. If your bar for the fun of cat poetry is a bit lower, you might like this a lot more.)

    2. Purr-fect for cat-lovers of all ages.If you or a friend loves cats, you have to read this book. With over a dozen beautiful feline illustrations and accompanying haiku, THE MAINE COON'S HAIKU is a treasure for animal and poetry lovers. The poems are all in the haiku style, and are well-written. Each haiku is a reflection of the cat breed it accompanies. They also evoke the seasons nature, feelings of playfulness and enjoyment, and many other emotions. Young readers will enjoy the playful words, [...]

    3. This is one pretty paged book that could not escape my personal perusal! As in my household, I have a sweet and mischievous rascal, little cute kitten scamp of a Maine Coon named Mr. Midnight, who is a purr-fect little buddy to a sweet gentleman Ragdoll whose name is Luna, or sometimes Mr. Luna, because of the Mr. in Midnight's name. They have always gotten along purr-fectly; both are black beauties except Luna, who has white paws, whiskers, tummy and a small bib, like the cute gentle man he is! [...]

    4. I absolutely loved this book! Rosen writes a haiku for each of 20 breeds of cats, with more information at the back of the book about each breed. The poems are divided by cats that are indoors and cats that are outdoors. My favorite is "Norwegian Forest Cat":caught among branches fog descends the trunk headfirstone foot at a timeI love the idea of a cat looking like fog in a tree. So many of these remind me of my own cats. For example, the British shorthair leaving pawprints all over cars remind [...]

    5. For most, haikus are the first type of poetry learned in school because they are simple and easy to learn. This book, centered on all types of cat, features a haiku about each one, along with a full page spread illustration of each cat. The illustrations in this book are very well done watercolors and really accurately capture the characteristics of each cat. There are also more informative profiles about each cat breed in the back of the book, which is helpful for those who wish to learn more a [...]

    6. This was a fun book, I don't know if I would use it as a focus on a lesson. But if we did a unit on animals, it may be a fun way to start the unit. Students could use it learn about haiku's. That way they could see you can write poems about pretty much anything.

    7. I thought the poetry in this was very fun. This would definitely be a great book for cat lovers, This poem showed lots of funny cute poems about cats. I don't think I would use this in a classroom but its definitely cute.

    8. POETRYBeing a most dedicated cat-lover, I absolutely loved this book. It was filled with haikus about different cat breeds. Because I am such a cat-fanatic, I was able to see each cat's personality being depicted in the haikus. Each haiku was specifically about one cat breed. I really loved that in the back of the book their is a list of each cat breed mentioned and information about them. When I saw this book in the store, I just knew I would absolutely love it! I believe that part of being a t [...]

    9. The Maine Coon’s Haiku and Other Poems for Cat Lovers is a 2015 new poetry book for children. Nowadays we take lots of poetic license in the writing of haiku as illustrated in this new collection of poems by Rosen who gave us The Cuckoo’s Haiku in 2009. Each of the twenty haiku are about a particular kind of cat. For example, in the haiku entitled “Burmese,” it goes like this: “Only the blazing/forsythia blooms rival/the Burmese cat’s gaze.” Another poem I enjoy is “Maine Coon” [...]

    10. The Maine Coon's Haiku: and other poems for cat lovers by Michael J. RosenIllustrated by Lee WhiteCandlewick Press, 2015Poetry56 pagesRecommended for grades 2+I love this book! Each poem is about a different breed of cat, with a gorgeous illustration to treat our eyes. I want this book in my classroom! This collection feels so different from Rosen's The Cuckoo's Haiku: and Other Birding Poems. I love little things like: mud daises (muddy paw prints on cars). I brought a copy into school, and a s [...]

    11. A lovely book of illustrated haikus inspired by different cat breeds. Gorgeous illustrations (would be five-star, but . . . ), the haiku format wasn't the most expressive or evocative choice, and, as someone who lives with cats, I wasn't a big fan of some of the lack of information -- particularly regarding the "Ragdoll" haiku, ivy is toxic to cats, so one should never have it in a place where a cat may ingest it (aspca/pet-care/animal) -- also, regarding "Bengals," apart from the small note in [...]

    12. This interesting collection of haiku poetry focuses upon specific cat breeds. The poems are separated into "Inside" and "Outside" cats. Each breed's haiku garners a two page spread with artwork. The muted, subtle shades of digital art expand the meaning of the brief poems. This book also has the added advantage of enticing readers who love cats, and the glossary-like entries at the end of the book explain more about each cat breed including characteristics for future cat owners to consider. I wo [...]

    13. gr 3-5It's hard to believe these luscious illustrations were created digitally - it looks like sponge painting on rough paper in some places, pen and ink in others. That is what first drew me to this book. Then the poems are all short, of course, with sections going from "inside" to "outside" cats. It all ends with more info about the cats at the end. I think this would be fun to booktalk and catlovers would love it!

    14. The title's catchy enough, but the poems and art were just ok. I like the idea behind the book--haikus about different types of cats with illustrations of the cat. Some of the haikus were interesting, but some seemed kind of lame or underwhelming (though I'm not a huge poetry fan). The illustrations attempted to capture the cat and the sentiment of the haiku, and, though it did have a certain look, it too was only okay. I did like that the end of the book had a brief summary of each cat breed.

    15. In brief poems punctuated by "a-ha!" moments, Rosen pays tribute to 20 popular cat breeds. Diverse settings and a wide range of distinctly feline personalities make these haikus sing, and striking, digitally-rendered illustrations provide context. Interesting facts about each breed append the text.My personal favorite: Abyssinian.

    16. This unique approach to various breeds of domesticated cats allows readers to explore the intricacies of breed patterns on the same level as they examine the physical and behavioral traits of the cats.

    17. I like how the book uses a subject of interest to most children to help learn about poetry. I just fear the ones that can benefit from it the most may pass it up. I personally loved the poems and will try to gear kids towards it.

    18. The Maine Coon's Haiku: And Other Poems for Cat Lovers (2015)Michael Rosen(Poetry)Creative poems centered around cats. A little advanced for elementary, but a book I'd add to my poetry collection in a heartbeat.

    19. Very adorable and nicely drawn book :) I loved seeing many different breeds in the book, especially the info in the back about the history and fun facts about each breed. A must read for cat lovers at any age :)

    20. I have a Maine Coon cat and wanted to check out the haiku book. I saw it at work one day and had to get it. The haiku are about six different types of cats. It's a really creative concept and I enjoyed the book.

    21. Beautiful and fun artwork of a variety of cat breeds. I appreciated that the end of the book had information about each breed mentioned. The haiku's left much to be desired, however it could be useful as a read-aloud for a school-age program.

    22. Cats of different breeds are depicted in haiku poems.A brief run down of the distinctive qualities of each breed that appears in text follows the poetry contained here. A great read/gift book for cat lovers, but an equally good read for fans of poetry and pets/animals in general. PreK-2+.

    23. Reviewed for the Mock Caldecott Awards. I love haikus anyway, so I really enjoyed this collection of haikus pertaining to cats. Here's my favorite one from the book: Crouched before the couch Suddenly, cat has all night for just one sound: mouse

    24. If you love cats and like haiku, this is your kind of book. Or -- if you love cats and don't especially like haiku -- still good. If you love cats and HATE haiku -- still OK. However, if you don't like cats -- well, shame on you.

    25. Haiku poems are used to depict different cat breeds. The poetry and beautiful illustrations pair together excellently. A fun read for cat lovers and a good lesson in teaching haikus! 1-4 Gr.
