    1. A Hint of Magic is the first book in Claire Chilton’s Demonic Diaries series. In this short story we are given a glimpse into the life of Dora Carradine, the heroine of Demonic Dora. We are introduced to Dora and her family, and some of how Dora fits into (or doesn’t) her community. I have mixed feelings about this book. I believe some of them are my own misconceptions so those I will leave out, but give some advice so you don’t experience the same misconceptions. I read Demonic Dora befor [...]

    2. I picked up this book as a 99 cent book on , and it had me laughing outloud throughout the story. It's a novella about a preacher's daughter who likes to break all the rules. She's looking for some mystery in the world and ends up falling in with a group of witches on the wrong side of town. The story is OTT and hilarious. I loved Dora and her crazy life, and the world building was great. The spooky little shopping street at the beginning is enchanting. One thing to be aware of is that this is no [...]

    3. I really enjoyed this story. The story follows Dora, a goth-girl bad ass with super-religious parents, as she ventures into the darker side of life and discovers witchcraft. Along with the author's hijinks comedy style, there are some great descriptive scenes of the darker side of town, and some wonderfully thrilling elements. But the best bit is the comedy. Every time Janet spoke, I died laughing. It is on the short side, more of a novella than a novel. But it's free, so I can't complain about t [...]

    4. Claire Chilton is a talented, funny author. Her female lead character Dora has some good funny lines. Dora is bored wit her humdrum life, so she wants to spice things up by joining a witches coven or summoning up a demon. This story is short but keeps your interest from beginning to end. A fast read. Entertaining. I plan to read the other books with the Dora character. So far I think there are two full length novels with Dora in the Demon Diaries series.

    5. At the beginning of the story you would think everything is rather normal and boring in Dora's live - being the minister's daughter. However, this soon changed and my jaw literally dropped when she and her dad got into their first fight. I was hooked then and I could understand her search for something magic and better than what she had. I must wonder then what happens further in the series when now every man in her live seems to disappoint her.

    6. This doesn't have a lot to offer. There is no intrigue. The mystery is not mysterious. You are pretty aware of what is happening with the plot at all times. There are no surprises there. The problem is that there is nothing supporting the characters and their actions. There is no sense going on here. Why is Dora looking into demons and hell and witch craft? Why, if she is brought up to be really religious, is she so hell bent on finding evil things to spend her time with? She mentions finding som [...]

    7. Dona’s father, a preacher, constantly tells her that she is Satan Spawn, and he never has a good word for her. This leads to Dora seeking some magic in her life, and she sets out to explore the darker side of life. She came across a coven of witches and had to do 3 trails for them to be accepted into the coven. Loanda the coven’s main witch send Dona to set a trap for Howard so that he could go to jail for embezzlement although Loanda was the one who embezzled from Howard's firm and Dona con [...]

    8. Well written, tight and yes a chuckle or giggle here and there. Actually, truth be told Claire spins a rather funny story. For me, well, not much of laughing with my horror that confessed it is hard for me to toss this story aside. It is dark, sinister in many ways and very well designed. I can see much talent spilled like blood (Claire’s) over the pages. She spins a well-woven and dynamic tale.Dora is drawn out well for who and what she is. If you miss the point of her character then she will [...]

    9. I really enjoyed this story, but felt it was a bit short as a novella. It was a free read however, and an enjoyable one, but I wanted more of it than I got. The comedy in the story is very well done and the writing is addictively good. If you're looking for a quick read with witty dark humor, you'll probably enjoy this story.

    10. A quick read about a rebellious preachers daughter. Prequel in the series and happy to say I will not continue the series based on this book. It was an ok story that just did not tickle my fancy to carry on with the series.

    11. Cliffhanger seriesShort free book from kindle. Stroppy teenage girl wants to dance with the devil to escape her bible bashing parents. Good read for young adults.

    12. not sure what i read to be honest i was expecting something but not this i mean i stepped into the twilight zone talk about an overactive imagination and how naive the main character was

    13. Entertaining readI enjoyed reading this amusing interesting story about a goth who wants to be a witch but is terrorised by her bible father.

    14. A Fine Series OpenerClaire Chilton has two excellent rebellious teen girl fantasy series, ("Outliers/Squishies" and "Demon Diaries"), but figuring out which books go where is a challenge. I have answered that challenge and am happy to offer a guiding hand. Because hey, what else are fans for?The "Demon Diaries" series features Demonic Dora Carradine. There are five books in this series, though they were not published in the same order they should be read. This book, Book 0, is "A Hint of Magic" [...]

    15. A Hint Of Magic is a novella from Claire Chilton's Demon Diaries series. It follows the pursuits, chaos and hilarity that makes up Dora Carridine's life. She's a Preacher's daughter and is the complete opposite of the holier than thou daughter of a priest. She loves the dark side and has a penchant for demons, has a gothic flair and an at times laugh out loud humour. Dora wants nothing more than to leave her sheltered church life, to dive into a realm of magic and mayhem. She finds it after foll [...]

    16. Dora is not happy with her life. Her father is a televangelist and tries to control all aspects of her life. She just wants some magic, even if she has to get it from dark forces. She thinks all of her wishes are about to come true when she joins the local coven of witches. This is just an introduction of Dora and her world. So the title is very accurate. Don't expect a lot of magic here. You will get to meet Dora and start to see her personality. Dora tends more to misadventures than true advent [...]

    17. Full review at FangfreakintasticreviewsHere is the second origin story in the Demon Diaries series. This one is of the wonderful Dora. The Hint of Magic is technically the prequel to the series, but I feel that it should be the 2nd in the book with A Hint of Hell being first. After you read them you will see why I think that way. By the way, most of these books have already been reviewed by Melanie so if you want to search -----> for her reviews you can and then see how we differ. While we ar [...]

    18. [image error]I read 'A Hint of Hell' before this one and I can't help but think how Dora and Kieron are in a complete swap of places. Not that I think Dora's evil, but she can pull a mean streak much better than Kieron and their looks certainly fit better if they were "Switched" in maternity. Who knows right? With Dora's father calling her Demon's Spam, everything seem possible. So I like how Dora seemed more like a witch than the witches she encountered and even though I don't like much of her s [...]

    19. Dora is the daughter of a preacher & a former pole dancer (turned religious zealot) and she feels like her life is forced on her. She wants something more, maybe something magical. My favorite part just has to be her "confession". Her father makes her give confession on Sundays and gets way more than he bargains for. Dora confesses to anything that will rile her father up. This book is HILARIOUS! My only complaint is that it is way too short. At least there appears to be a serious and I can' [...]

    20. Short introduction to the character of Dora and her horrible life on earth. This is the start of the series and isn't to be missed! Think of it as one part of a prequel to the Dora series. (The second part of the prequel is a Hint of Hell.)Dora is looking for a little magic in her mundane world. What she finds is disappointing, but told in a quirky way that will make you chuckle as you race to the end. Read this first! When you are done you will be anxious to read the Demon Diaries as escapade a [...]

    21. Not my cup of tea. The main character was unlikable. I didn't feel any sympathy for her plight. I could understand her feeling different and wanting there to really be magic in the world, but she was such a brat that I couldn't care about her. And her parents (televangelist) making her go to confession as a punishment?? This made the writer seem like someone who hasn't done any research on any religion.

    22. This is a fun, quick read about a teenager, Dora, whom her parents call "Satan's Spawn" her father is a pastor at their church and Dora drives him crazyDora is an impressionable girl and believes in magic which leads her to a magic shop where her troubles ensue. She is quick witted and quite funny with her one liners.Recommend this book if you're looking for a fun read to while away some time and enjoy some laughs.

    23. This is the humorous storyof Dora who wants to believe in magic. She has some difficulties along the way. The foremost being that her father is a televangelist. Another being that she hasn't a clue about how to find what she wants until the proprietor of a magic shop tells her that she is the head of a coven. Now, all she has to do is complete her tasks, keep her father appeased, and survive her first date.

    24. I am actually giving this book a three and a half stars, but I'm rounding it up to four, due to the book ending at 70%. I really wanted more. 'A Hint of Magic' was a funny and entertaining read. The storyline was pretty good. I loved Dora's sarcasm. Growing up being the 'spawn of Satan' had to be difficult. Dora's search for magic was certainly adventurous, to a point. I look forward to reading more of this series.

    25. Quirky This book gives us the story of how Demonic Dora started out. It's quite a short book, but very descriptive and fun to read. With a preacher, a coven and dabbling in the dark arts, there is plenty to keep you entertained.Dora is a cool and quirky character, with a really messed up family life, very likeable and I am looking forward to finding out more about her in the books to come. This might be aimed at teens/young adults but it's worth reading no matter how old you are.

    26. I adored this book for many reasons. Who doesn't adore a snarky, foul mouthed, teenage girl who tries to conjure darkness? Or the fact that her parents are the bane of every goth child's life. Especially her father being a televangelist. I could see this done as an adult oriented cartoon by Netflix or something of the like. Maybe the author should consider pitching it to a web based network.
