By the time she hit Grade Four, Laura Langston knew she wanted to be a writer So did the teachers It was the persistent daydreaming and invisible friends that tipped them off Since Laura grew up knowing no writers and consequently didn t know how to be one she became a journalist instead The trouble is, journalists are expected to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. But making stuff up is way fun So eventually Laura traded one notebook for another and today she writes books for tweens, teens, children and sometimes adults When she s not writing, reading or walking her Shetland sheepdogs, Laura can be found spying on people in the grocery store or twisting herself into a pretzel in yoga class To learn , visit lauralangston Follow her at facebook LauraLangston.Author

    1. Lily O’Neal is half-Asian, half Irish-German, and all actress. She gets her big break at 15 when the director of a TV movie sees her at a commercial audition, but her parents are reluctant to let her go to LA during the school year, especially as she’s failing math. Her agent promises to chaperone her and Lily promises to do her math while she’s there, and since her uncle lives there, she even has a place to stay. Once there, things are both better and worse than she had expected. She love [...]

    2. Orca novels appeal to reluctant readers; the series has a clear sense of its readers’ interests and dreams. “Hot New Thing,” is teen wish fulfilment; it offers little substance but includes lots of action and drama. Teenagers who dream of acting in Hollywood will enjoy the short, but engaging story of 15-year-old Lily, discovered by a big-time Hollywood film director after a disastrous audition for a toothpaste commercial. He offers Lily the starring role in his next blockbuster film.Unbel [...]

    3. When 15-year-old Lily is discovered by a Hollywood director after a disastrous audition for a toothpaste commercial, she is excited to be offered a starring role in his latest movie. The downside? It’s filming in Los Angeles and Lily lives in Vancouver, B.C. After negotiating with her parents, Lily ends up staying with distant family members in L.A. and starting her acting career in a big way.As a newbie, Lily faces many struggles with not only memorizing constantly changing lines, but also de [...]

Lily gets there and doesn't feel very comfortable. The whole new role she has to play is beginning to get out of hand and all of that with keeping sure she stays on top of her homework and gets it turned i [...]

    5. This book is a fun, quick read. Although Lily does confront some issues that cause her to examine exactly who she is and who she wants to be, don't go into this book expecting something deep and soul-searching. It's a light read that can easily be completed in one sitting, making it perfect for a beach read or something quick while traveling.Grades 7 and up (reading level is probably easier than that but some content causes me to hesitate recommending this to readers younger than middle school)

    7. I enjoyed reading about Lily's journey to fame and success while learning about who she really is and learning to stay true to herself. A great lesson for girls ages 12 to 14 about not succumbing to pressures just to conform to someone else's expectations. Another great read by Laura Langston.

    8. A great book for a girl aged 12+. The cover is deceiving. It is not about sex. The story is of a girl that is an up and coming actress. She has to blend her 2 heritages and find her own voice.
