Why am I a writer When I was a young girl, I wanted to be a teacher I d line up my stuffed animals in front of a board and teach them the alphabet and how to count In high school I wanted to be a tennis player I was on the tennis team, and played at our neighborhood tennis club Then in college I thought digging dinosaur bones would be a cool job It wasn t until I was working at my own public relations agency that I decided I really wanted to write children s books I was so inspired by the magic of reading a book that I wanted to see if my active imagination could create magical moments for kids all over the world I started to write, then sent my stories to publishers, and sold my first manuscript in 1992 I ve been writing ever since. Why I write now.I love the freedom of being my own boss, of coming up with ideas on my own and writing that first draft to see if my idea has any spark I m not so crazy about the revising process although there are thrilling moments when I figure out a better way to say something, or when I nail dialog, or work through a complicated plot line The most exciting moment is when an editor says they want to publish my manuscript Then I know all my hard work has paid off, and that soon, children will enter my imaginative world through a book.

    1. Wonderfully written book by Natasha Wing, author of the Night Before series. Feel the anticipation of the child in the story, and relive your own anticipation of the long awaited day. See an interview with the author on my blog. julianaleewriter/2014/01/1

    2. A young boy is very excited. Soon he will celebrate another birthday. There will be balloons and party favors, along with gifts from friends. For him, its not a holiday but it is the best day of the year. When that day finally arrives and the house is all decorated a giant mishap occurs. All of the ice cream and some balloons have become a disaster on the kitchen floor. But there is no need to panic.Mom checked in the freezer.“We don't have any more.”“Come on, birthday kid,” said Dad.“ [...]

    3. My Review: What could be better than sharing your birthday with your friends! And what makes a good birthday? Balloons, cake, ice creams, candies, fun hats, toot horns and lot of presentsThe big day has arrived; mom and dad set the table with party napkins and plates. The party favors are ready to give each guest. Everything is set but what could go wrong? Nothing that can’t be fixed! It’s time to have fun, open presents, make a wish and sing Happy Birthday Day.This is a wonderful addition t [...]

    4. I really loved this story, but I was disappointed by the manner in which it was published. It would be a perfect read-aloud story, except for the fact that the pictures are difficult to see from a distance and the pages are small.

    5. One of my favorites of the night before books. I like how the illustrator never shows the face of the birthday child so that it could be anyone.
