    1. First off, I was a beta reader for Laura, whom I met at a writing course, and this is her debut novel, Djinn. Kyra is a girl on the run with her father. Who they're running from, she doesn't know. So when the pursuers finally catch up and kidnap Kyra, she learns that everything is not as it seems. Her world is about to change big time, because she's a genie, and not everyone is happy about her return. But with her mysterious and dreamy trainer, Will, Kyra will have to find a way to adjust to her [...]

    2. A teen shouldn't have to live a life on the run, with constant moves and training in self-defense. Kyra and her father have always lived this way, and though she resents it, it is what she knows. But everything she knows shatters when a boy named Will and his team of supernaturally-powered friends kidnaps her and takes her to the community of the Djinn. She learns her true past as a noble daughter of the Djinn, a magical people with fantastic powers, and she discovers the true identity of the man [...]

    3. This deserves so much more than 5 stars! Dammit! Review to come***Review originally appears on my blogAll The Bookish Love Disclaimer: I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.Holy heck, was this book amazing or what? It went right off the chart for me. I’ve read my fair share of YA books, but never have I been so infatuated and enthralled by one than I was with this one. Let’s face it, most YA books are either dystopian, have v [...]

    4. 3.5 StarsJust finished Djinn! There were parts of it I LOVED and parts of it I didn't love. Honestly though, there really wasn't anything technically or structurally wrong with this book. No complaints in the grammar department, and everything was formatted right. What made this book a 3.5 versus a 4 or 5 was the fact that it's a classic YAPR (YA Paranormal Romance or as I like to call them: yappers). I loved the world building! The Djinn society, their affinity for dogs, all the different magic [...]

    5. (I received this free ebook by the author in exchange for an honest review)I LOVED reading Djinn! The writing was good, the characters were great, and the cover is perfect! Once I got done with the opening scene I knew it was going to be good.Kyra and her father have been on the run for her whole life. He trains her to fight and to observe her surroundings. Kyra takes what her father teaches her and although she questions it she feels that he is just protecting her. She even goes through great l [...]

    6. There were moments in Djinn where I was all "pfft, that's obvious." Other moments were I was all *blink* "did not see that coming "And then the moment where I was all "OH MY GOD, NO!! WHY?!"And while I understand the reasoning behind that moment, why it was necessary and how well the author handled it I'm still back there wondering if I could have done anything differently. What I, as a reader, could've done I'm not sure but there you have it.What I liked:Djinn, while it had it's moments of p [...]

    7. *I was given a copy of this book as a gift from Stephanie's Book Reports in exchange for an honest review. This is the first book in the Djinn series, and it is Kyra's story.Kyra has been on the run with her dad her entire life. She has no idea who it is they are running from and why she is in danger. When she is finally captured, the information she receives turns her entire world upside down. What do you do when everything you thought you knew about yourself and your family turns out to be a li [...]

    8. This book has a couple of great things going for it. The biggest is that it isn't about zombies or vampires--it's something truly unique and original. The story is compelling, absorbing, and has some great twists to it. And the characters are so well-done, you get a feel and a sympathy for all of them, even the ones you don't like so much.Laura Catherine manages to succeed in something that a lot of writers can't do--and that's to seamlessly transition her character through several changes. In t [...]

    9. I absolutely LOVED this book! It's well written, funny, romantic, and intriguing! I'm also in love with the cover (: I really liked all of the characters in this book. Will is such a gentlemen, which is pretty rare anymore. In a lot of books I've been reading lately the guy is always some huge bad ass with a soft heart. Will can kick some ass, but he is very caring and sweet. Kyra is an awesome heroine. She can handle herself, she's smart, and even though she's been through a lot, she never let' [...]

    10. **Received a copy in exchange for an honest review**Djinn, another list to my favorite books. From the start up to the last, everything is perfect. The concept of the story is really good. It's not boring and it definitely is unique. The characters, they are easy to love and like.Kyra, she's cool and I love her character.I love that she's not a wimp and she knows how to fight. Will on the other hand, even though he's a fighter, I love his gentleness. The other characters, Mia, Pyke, Nate and othersThe [...]

    11. A very interesting concept. I was really intrigue on how the author would introduce the world of "Genies" in the story. I find the plot really good, it was really compelling, and the twist was very unexpected. I was really thrilled and bedazzled.Kyra's character is a mixture of soft and strong. I felt her confusion, anger and pain. The only thing that I didn't get about her is that, she easily adapt to her new world, I mean, emotionally in regards with her Dad(Malcom). Will's character is a rare [...]

    12. Well, I read this book all the way to the end! Mainly because it was free for a review.I must say for a debut this was very good.It had lots of action, a great story line, and romance! It was laid out and written extremely well.I would have read it just because I loved the cover.I looked at some of the other reviews and apparently my opinion is not like the rest. I liked it. I did not love it. I probably would have put it down after 1/4 the way through it out of boredom. A lot was very predictab [...]

    13. I loved Kyra -- she kicked it in all the right ways! I've never read a story about Djinn before, but I guess I will have to look into reading more. Loved the romance aspect and the parrallels to interracialercultural relationship issues. Plenty of hot guys to crush on in this one. That said, there were a few problems with the book like missing words here and there, and I skimmed in a couple of places because it got dull (or maybe it was too late to be reading and I was just tired?). Very good by [...]

    14. This book was the most wonderfully written story I have had the pleasure of reading so far so thank you very much for the chance to read this wonderful book the characters and story line was a truly wonderful get away and loved ever minute of this book as you can see the book was so very hard to put down once I started to read it I couldn't stop so now I would love to know when the next book is coming out and also my thanks go to the author Laura and most say you go girl and keep them coming and [...]

    15. Djinn is one of those addictive paranormal romances that you just can't put down until you finish it. This is a fabulous first novel for a debut author. I loved all the characters, but Pyke I can't say why I am not happy about the ending, you will have to read it to find out. If you loved Touching Smoke by Airicka Phoenix and Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead you will love Djinn by Laura Catherine!

    16. I bought this book for my kindle after reading the synopsis. An interesting concept! I really enjoyed this book as it was a light fun read. The writing was great and the character development was spot on. You get action, adventure, romance, mystery, and humor. If you like cheesy teen movies and throw in ancient middle eastern folklore, then this book is for you. I only wish the ending didn't feel so abrupt. That being said I can't wait for book two!!!

    17. It took me ages to get through the first part of the book but at chapter four the story started and after that it was great fun. It's a nice, well thought out world, and the heroine, Kyra, as well as the hero, Will, are both very likable. The plot is intriguing too but I didn't realise it would end on a cliffhanger! I'll definitely look out for the second half as I'd like to see how it ends.

    18. I had the pleasure of beta reading this book for Author Laura Catherine. I was drawn immediately into the story and by the end it left me wanting more. I look forward to the release of this book to add officially to my collection and for the next book in the series. Well done!

    19. I was a Beta reader for this book and I cannot wait to see/read the final product!! It's a unique and exciting story, I wish book 2 was already out as I want to know more about what happens. I haven't read a book about Djinn before so it was really good to read something new!!

    20. Elementary. Elementary writing. Elementary Characters. Elementary Plot. Not worth the time.Read at your own risk.

    21. **4.5 Fiery Hearts!***I received this book free from the author in exchange for an honest review*Kyra has been on the run with her dad her entire life. Trying to live a stable life and actually staying in one place seems very complicated. Kyra has nightmares that are so vivid they seem so real to her, almost as if they are part of her. With Kyra and her dad's guards down the men looking for her show up and take her to a secret compound where her nightmares become a reality. Everyone has the same [...]

    22. Will edit one review is finished. Edited on March 27th, 2014First a quick thanks to the author for giving me a copy of the book when I won a giveaway! I love winning books and this was a great prize!Cover! I think this cover is really awesome. The colors are great and it gives an air of mystery, but once you read the story it all comes together.I went through emotions in this book just like Kyra did. At first everything was happy and then - BOOM - your life turns upside down. I went up and down [...]

    23. Very different from the normal "vampire and werewolves" fare. That is why I was drawn to this book. I recently read the Forbidden Trilogy by Karpov Kinrade(I may do a post on it soon), and this kind of reminds me of that series mixed in with one I love, but have yet to finish, called The Significance Series by Shelly Crane.Kyra is a very strong character. Very strong-willed, smart, resourceful. She analyzes her situation and tries not to get too emotional.I don't want to give any of the twists a [...]

    24. Djinn was a great read! I really enjoyed how the book started off. Laura kept the book at a nice fast paced read and it was very interesting. Not everything was revealed to the reader and we learned things at about the same time the main character did, which was nice because then there was still mystery and a need to keep reading. The book was really well written. I loved that there was a prologue at the beginning that helps you understand some things further down into the story because it clear [...]

    25. I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review.Kyra's life is far from normal.Kyra has spent her life on the run. Going from town to town, just her, her father and their beat up old truck trying to evade the bad people, who are after them. However these people catch up with them and Kyra finds herself kidnapped and taking to a place where she quickly learns that all is not as it seems. This is the first in the Djinn series and the first time I have come across this author. I am a massive fan [...]

    26. Her entire life Kyra and her father have been on the run she doesn't know exactly who from but she has seen them as they tried to take her, close to her 18th birthday and suddenly the past has caught up. When she finally finds out the reason for all the running her world will be tipped on its axis more than ever and she will have to find out what the truth is between what seems to be lies.As Kyra discovers a world she could never have imagined she has to learn how to use her new powers she sudde [...]

    27. 4.5I was given a book in exchange for an honest review free of persuasion from the author or anyone else affiliated with this book.Malcolm Lockhart and Kyra have been on the run since she was two years old. Every new place means a new name. She's not thrilled with Sally, but she has no choice. She has been training with Malcolm since she was twelve years old. Her mother and why they are on the run are a complete mystery to her. Why are people after them? Why won't Malcolm tell her what is really [...]

    28. I was given this book for an honest review free of persuasion from the author or anyone else affiliated with this bookNTAINS SOME SPOILERSThis book is the first book in the Djinn series.I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The characters are well developed and the story believable.Kyra was kidnapped at the age of 2 by her father. At 17, her mother's people get her back. Then she learns what she really is and what her powers are and how to control them. Then her father's people come for her, breaking [...]

    29. So, the beginning took a little "warm up period", however, probably around 40% into the book, I didn't want to put it down! The Djinn is a nice change to the YA paranormal romance genre. It was fairly clean (some slight "heavy pecking" at one point ). And the ending is somewhat of a cliffhanger (though not where you want to throw something like an "Aw man!" type ending.=o) There were a couple of typos I noticed but not enough to detract from the story (obviously!). Loved the characters! My main [...]

    30. bordering between 3.5 stars. what were a bit annoying?- too fast love affair between heroine and main lead - too fast accept of her new "world"there were times when some things were just rushed forward. there were no timefor building and sometimes we were told the traits of other people instead of showing it. still, there were some really good moments, wich is why i still would recommend it to others.
